The Moose hunt by calling is done during the Moose rutting season. The hunt begins at dawn in areas frequented by the Moose.
Our guides will imitate the female moose call to attract the males in rut.
Before dawn we will move to the hunting area to begin the hunt which usually lasts about three hours.
In the afternoon, about an hour before sunset we will go back to the hunting area for the second and last hunting trip of the day.
One of our guides will imitate the call of the female moose to attract males who are seeking females for mating. Normally the Bull Moose does not take long to answer the call and the guide will attract the male to move outside the dense forest to give the hunter a good shot.
This form of hunting sometimes can be combined, as of October 1, with moose hunting with dogs.
Moose hunting the claim is made during the mating season, moose dates often vary but the mating season usually begins the first week of September (keep in mind that the season opens on September 15 ) and ending in mid-October.
The best climate conditions for hunting moose by calling are low temperatures, little or no rain and preferably little wind. If these conditions exist then there is very often a successful hunt but the energy of the moose can be somewhat erratic and this adds an extra factor of uncertainty to the moose hunt.
