Geese Hunting

One of the largest migrations of goose on earth

1st September to 31st November

Minimum hunting 4 days

Minimum 2 hunters

Estonia is on the migratory path of geese and each year millions of geese pass through Estonia for a period of 3 to 4 weeks which guarantees spectacular densities of Geese. Geese are hunted during the period between the end of September and the end of October using decoy birds and goose calls in the fields and lakes of Estonia.

Goose Hunting

Goose Hunting starts in September until late November but the highest concentrations are in late September and the first half of October when we organize the goose hunt.

The hunt starts in the morning before sunrise and can last all day and is done by attracting geese to fields through the use of goose-calls and decoys. Depending on the quantity of geese and their timidness hunting can also be done in the afternoon at the lakes where they go to rest.

Development of hunting

Before dawn we will move to the fields where the geese have been frequenting the days before the start of the hunt. Before the first goose make its appearance we place all decoys in position and position the hunter so that he is hidden completely.

At first light the geese make their appearance and, thanks to the combination of decoys and calls made by hunters, geese begin their descent to feed in the field.

Hunters will be organized in groups of 2 per post of which will have about 50 decoys in position.

The shot is usually done at a height of between 10 and 30 meters and it is important that hunters placed in the position coordinate their actions to thereby maximize the number of culls.

Normally the hunt lasts about six hours in which it is possible to fire between 60 and 100 rounds per gun, depending on the density, weather conditions and, of course, the ability of the hunter himself.

Peculiarities of Goose Hunting with Decoys

Keep in mind that the success of Goose Hunting with Decoys depends on many factors such as migration of geese, weather conditions and the ability of the hunter himself so you have to keep in mind that it is not possible to guarantee the end result of the hunt and there usually tends to be very successful days and those with little activity.

Geese are very intelligent birds that also have a great sense of sight which makes preparation a very important aspect of the hunt.

We have the best goose decoys and positions are carefully prepared to prevent goose hunters from being detected. We use positions that allow the hunter to be sitting or semi-sitting or where the hunter remains lying down in the American style of hunting.
