Duck Hunting with Decoys

  • Recommended duration: 3 days (4 nights)
  • Hunting season from 20 August  until late October

Estonia is one of the destinations most important for duck breeding in northern Europe with large areas where you can experience excellent duck hunting.

Their hunt takes place from mid-August to late October. In October we also have millions of ducks migrating to southern Europe so that densities are multiplied. Duck hunting with decoys can be combined with the Goose hunting with decoys usually in late September and early October.

Hunting Program

  • Day 1: Arrival at Tallinn airport and transfer to the hunting lodge
  • Days 2 to 4: Duck Hunting with Decoys
  • Day 5: Transport to Tallinn airport for departure

Development of The Hunt

Before dawn we will go to the hunting area to place decoys in front of the posts. With the first rays of light the morning hunt usually lasts about three hours. Around 4 pm will return to the same post of decoys for the second hunt of the day.

Duck hunting varies a lot depending on the weather, since hunting is mainly on the coastal area it is important to depend on wind and low cloud coverage to urge the ducks into the protected coastal areas.

Approximately 50 decoys are in strategic positions and the blinds are well equipped for the comfort of the hunter as well as to avoid the hunter being seen by the Ducks.

Peculiarities of Duck Hunts with Decoys

In hunting duck one must be very cautious about giving details of a possible outcome because it is a very specialized hunt which requires appropriate weather conditions. Considering the hunter has the necessary expertise and experience with decoys and their positioning it is possible for an experienced hunter to bring down between 15 and 30 ducks per day.

Furthermore, it is normal to shoot between 4 and 6 different species of ducks per day, which adds a great interest to this hunt.
